SSS.6.241 - Tuna Cans Blackfin XL and the Q mini FIX 300 BLK Subsonic

SSS.6.241 - Tuna Cans Blackfin XL and the Q mini FIX 300 BLK Subsonic

The Tuna Cans Blackfin XL is a full size modular .375 caliber rifle silencer that provides various degrees of subsonic 300 BLK suppression performance based upon the number of baffles the user chooses to install. In the 12-baffle configuration, the silencer is the quietest, though it does exhibit noticeable first round pop (FRP). In the 9-baffle configuration, performance drops somewhat significantly and FRP remains severe. Nonetheless, users may find utility in the silencer due to its economy, modularity, HUB-mount compatibility, and multi-caliber applicability.  Note that although the baffle technology in the Blackfin XL is relatively primitive, this program evaluates its performance in an over-bore condition, which is a performance handicap given this type of technology.

How would the Tuna Cans Blackfin XL in the 12-baffle and 9-baffle configurations perform on your personal defense weapon?

SSS.6.182 - Dead Air Wolfman and the Heckler and Koch SP5 9x19mm Subgun

SSS.6.182 - Dead Air Wolfman and the Heckler and Koch SP5 9x19mm Subgun

The Dead Air Wolfman is a modular submachine gun silencer possessing mounting flexibility and durability metrics that provide a high degree of versatility.  In addition to sub-caliber use, the silencer may be used with rifle cartridges such as 5.56 NATO. The silencer is constructed of fully-welded stainless steel baffles and may be adapted to both long and short configurations.  Further utility is provided through the use of an optional wipe, which may increase gross suppression performance at the cost of decreased precision and increased back pressure.  The pure suppression performance of the Dead Air Wolfman is high and consistent with its traditional design.  System operators may be subjected to elevated hazard, relative to some competing models, due to its back pressure.

In this review, the Dead Air Wolfman performance metrics depend upon suppressing a subsonic centerfire pistol cartridge on a roller-delayed blowback submachinegun. How would the Dead Air Wolfman in both its long and short configuration perform on your 9mm pistol caliber carbine (PCC)?

SSS.6.47 - Griffin Armament Optimus and the Savage Model 10 PC .308

The Griffin Armament Optimus is a modular, multi-caliber, 9mm bore centerfire rifle silencer that exhibits notably lower back pressure for its long length, with competitive sound signature reduction in the supersonic flow regime. The Optimus has been refined since its 2016 release; users should note that the supersonic suppression and back pressure characteristics of the Optimus highlighted in this review represent upper bound performance of the Optimus silencer on this host weapon platform.

In this review, the Optimus performance metrics depend upon suppressing a supersonic centerfire rifle cartridge; no easy task. How would the silencer perform on your .308 deer rifle?
